Visited Sydney last year and just fell in love with the city. And now that a good friend lives there, the opportunity is way too ripe for me not to try to move there. I'm started to apply for jobs and it's actually beginning to look possible, though likely not until at least July. Would love any advice/words of wisdom and to start sparking up some friendships! :)

Re: Trying to move to Sydney
Sun, April 8, 2007 - 10:08 AMThanks! It's looking good. I already have an interview and a recruiter. :) I currently do marketing research, but have a PhD in psychology, so now would like to move to doing research on more social/health issues. Let me know if you know anything! :) -

Re: Trying to move to Sydney
Tue, April 10, 2007 - 8:01 AMHi Tamara - I moved to Sydney last year to do a graduate degree at UNSW after working the last four years in Berkeley (and living in SF for six years before that.) I can certainly understand falling for Sydney.
My ex flat mate is doing a bachelors in psychology at UNSW. Not sure how well she might know what is happening in the psych department, but I know she at least has some opinions about the goings on there. If you should find yourself in Sydney and thought it worth speaking to her I could introduce you.
Not sure about sage advice - follow up on contacts, there are some very interesting people living here. Drop me a note if you think of any questions.

Definitely check out the uni job boards but don't oversaturate the market with your cv & you should be right. I work in healthcare recruitment but at an executive level so not sure if I could help although you might want to look into recruitment yourself? Not sure if that would be of interest but the executive search firms are always keen on people with good industry & research knowledge :)
Hope it all works out for you and that you get your butt over here by July!
